The story behind this Swatch x Omega Mission to the Super Blue Moonphase
Omega and Swatch present the Mission to the Super Blue Moonphase model, reference SO33N700. This special edition celebrates the Super Blue Moon of 19 August 2024. Swatch’s approach to this launch was characterised by a specific purchasing process. The watch was only available to the public for a 19-day window, and purchases were only permitted from 5.00 pm onwards. This timing directly echoes the ‘blue hour’ – that moment at the end of the day when the fading sunlight bathes the sky in a deep blue. From a horological perspective, this model differs from previous versions by replacing the traditional tachymeter scale on the bezel with a pulsometer. This technical choice pays homage to the medical chronographs of the 1960s.
Case, calibre and strap of this Mission to the Super Blue Moonphase
The timepiece features an asymmetrical 42 mm case crafted from a composite material combining ceramic and bio-based materials. This blue Bioceramic has a matt finish and a silky texture. The silver opaline dial creates striking contrasts with a navy blue flange and sub-dials, evoking the aesthetic of inverted dials. The raised hour markers and hands incorporate luminescent material, ensuring clear readability in the dark. At 2 o’clock, the double moon phase window houses a detailed disc. A special ink that reacts to ultraviolet light conceals inscriptions that are invisible in daylight. An ETA quartz calibre movement powers the watch, ensuring consistent accuracy for its timekeeping functions. A blue technical Velcro strap with decorative stitching keeps the watch securely on the wrist. The watch is water-resistant to 30 metres.
Why this Swatch x Omega watch
This piece attracts interest due to its limited-edition status. Now unavailable in the official boutique network, it represents an attractive option on the second-hand market. The replacement of the tachymeter with a pulsometer graduated for 30 beats per minute gives it a unique aesthetic and historical character within the collection. The visual harmony between the matt blue of the case and the brightness of the dial makes it a versatile chronograph that is easy to pair with different outfits. Acquiring this model allows you to enjoy a watch with a recognisable design coupled with an astronomical complication appreciated by enthusiasts of fine watchmaking.
