The story behind this Swatch x Omega MoonSwatch
The collaboration between Swatch and Omega culminates in this Mission to Earthphase Moonshine Gold edition, reference SO33N701L. This model combines two major innovations from the collection. Firstly, it features the dual astronomical complication, simultaneously displaying the phases of the Moon and those of the Earth, with the latter rotating anti-clockwise to reflect celestial mechanics. Secondly, it features a moon disc coated in Moonshine gold, the exclusive alloy developed by Omega. According to the manufacturer, this gold finish is produced exclusively on nights when there is a full moon. This timepiece thus combines the technical sophistication of the Earthphase with the exclusivity of the Moonshine series within the Speedmaster’s famous asymmetrical case.
Case, calibre and strap of this MoonSwatch
The watch features an asymmetrical case measuring 42 millimetres in diameter and 13 millimetres thick. Its monobloc structure is crafted from bioceramic, a technical material with a matt finish. The fixed bezel incorporates the tachymeter scale, featuring a dot above the number 90. The grainy-textured dial features rotating indicators for the Earth at 10 o’clock and the golden Moon at 2 o’clock. Under ultraviolet light, the oceans on the Earth disc reveal a secret luminescence. The watch is powered by an ETA quartz calibre movement, which drives the chronograph function and synchronises the celestial phases. The watch is water-resistant to 3 bar. A technical textile strap with a hook-and-loop fastening secures the timepiece.
Why this Swatch x Omega watch
This version represents the most accomplished configuration in the range. It combines the dual astronomical complication with the rarity of the Moonshine Gold alloy. The integration of these two elements on a single dial makes it a particularly sought-after piece amongst collectors of the range. On the second-hand market, this model offers the opportunity to acquire an edition whose production and distribution in shops are extremely limited, whilst ensuring it is in impeccable aesthetic condition.
