The story behind this Swatch x Omega MoonSwatch
Swatch continues its tribute to space exploration with the Mission to the Moonphase New Moon model, reference SO33B700. This edition celebrates the new moon phase with an all-black design. It features the famous Snoopy mascot, chosen by NASA in 1968 to symbolise the safety of space flights. In 1970, the Apollo 13 crew used their Omega mechanical chronograph to time a 14-second course correction, thereby saving the mission. This feat earned the watchmaker the Silver Snoopy Award. This black MoonSwatch pays homage to this technical heritage by incorporating a poetic complication into the Speedmaster’s historic design.
Case, movement and strap of this New Moon
The asymmetrical case measures 42 millimetres in diameter and is 13 millimetres thick. The entire structure is crafted from black bioceramic, a composite material offering a completely matt, light-absorbing finish. The fixed bezel features a tachymeter scale with a printed dot above the number 90. The black dial has a stepped profile with three recessed sub-dials. The window at 2 o’clock reveals a rotating disc displaying the moon phases alongside a canine figure. A secret message and stars are revealed under ultraviolet light. The hands and hour markers are filled with luminescent material. The watch is powered by an ETA quartz calibre movement with four jewels. It is water-resistant to 3 bar. A black technical fabric strap with a hook-and-loop fastening completes the watch.
