The story behind this Swatch x Omega MoonSwatch
In the summer of 2024, the prolific collaboration between Swatch and Omega gave rise to a new trilogy dubbed “Mission on Earth”. Of these three creations, the “Lava” edition, reference SO33O100, stands out as the most striking. Paying homage to the power of volcanoes and the formation of fertile soil, it immediately catches the eye with its bright orange bioceramic case set against a deep black dial. This striking colour scheme is sure to remind collectors of the legendary 1968 Omega Speedmaster “Ultraman”, ref. 145.012, famous for its orange chronograph hand – a historical legacy subtly reinterpreted here with a contemporary, space-inspired approach.
Case, movement and strap of this Lava
The design of this timepiece faithfully echoes the Speedmaster’s asymmetrical styling, with a case measuring 42 millimetres in diameter and 13 millimetres thick. It is crafted from orange bioceramic, an exclusive Swatch material offering a completely matt, non-reflective finish, combined with remarkable strength and lightness. The fixed black bezel features the famous tachymeter scale marked with the “Dot over 90”. The black “Step Dial” highlights the luminescent hands and hour markers, subtly outlined in orange. On the back, the battery access cover concealing the ETA quartz movement is adorned with an image of the Earth. The watch is secured to the wrist by a black Velcro technical fabric strap, accented with orange topstitching.
Why this Swatch x Omega watch
The “Lava” edition is undoubtedly one of the most striking versions in the MoonSwatch range. Its aesthetic nod to the Speedmaster Ultraman gives it strong credibility amongst watch enthusiasts, whilst retaining Swatch’s playful and daring spirit. On the second-hand market, acquiring this 2024 release allows you to secure a model that is particularly sought-after for its striking visual contrast, ideal for making a bold, uncompromising sporting statement.
