The history of this Rolex Submariner No Date
Launched by Rolex in 1953, the Submariner was the first diving wristwatch water-resistant to 100 metres, designed for divers who were then adopting self-contained breathing apparatus. Its graduated rotating bezel was used to measure the time spent underwater, a feature that has remained unchanged ever since. When the company added a date window in 1969 with the reference 1680, it continued to produce the non-date version alongside it, remaining faithful to the dial of the earliest models. This lineage continues through the reference numbers 5513, 14060 and then 114060, right up to the Submariner No Date 124060 launched in 2020. This generation features a 41 mm case, slimmer lugs and is powered by the calibre 3230, developed and produced by Rolex. With no magnifying lens or date window, its black dial offers the clearest readability in the collection – exactly what divers expected from a tool watch.
Case, movement and bracelet of this Submariner No Date
The 41 mm Oyster case is crafted from Oystersteel, with brushed lugs on top and polished sides. The Triplock screw-down crown, framed by crown guards, and the screw-down case back ensure water resistance to 300 metres. The unidirectional rotating bezel features a black Cerachrom disc graduated to 60 minutes, with platinum-coated numerals and markings, and a luminescent marker at 12 o’clock. The black dial features round, baton and triangular hour markers, and 18-carat white gold Mercedes-style hands, coated with blue Chromalight. The calibre 3230, with automatic winding via the Perpetual rotor, offers a power reserve of approximately 70 hours. Certified as a Superlative Chronometer, it is tested by Rolex once fitted into the case. The Oyster bracelet, with three rows of solid links, fastens with an Oysterlock folding clasp, fitted with the Glidelock system which extends the bracelet by approximately 20 mm in increments of around 2 mm, without the need for tools, so it can be worn over a wetsuit or a thick sleeve.
Why this Rolex watch
The Submariner No Date is the entry-level model in the Submariner collection and remains one of the hardest-to-find steel models in official boutiques. This October 2025 model allows you to wear it straight away, in a configuration that is as close as possible to the original model. The dial, without a date display, retains the symmetry of its hour markers and the legibility sought after by diving watch enthusiasts. Its 41 mm diameter, 300-metre water resistance and adjustable bracelet make it as much an everyday watch as a diving tool. Purchased from an official Rolex retailer in Switzerland and still covered by the Manufacture’s warranty, it offers the peace of mind that comes with a recent watch.
Contents and condition
The watch is supplied as a Full Set, with its Rolex presentation box, outer box, its green ‘Superlative Chronometer’ seal, its booklet, its card holder and its international warranty card dated October 2025, as well as the original invoice from the authorised dealer. It has just been polished and looks as good as new, with no defects visible to the naked eye on the case, bezel or bracelet. The polishing process has preserved the alternating brushed and polished finishes intended by Rolex, and the Cerachrom ceramic bezel insert retains its deep black colour and crisp numerals. The buyer therefore receives a recent Submariner, complete and ready to wear upon receipt.
