The history of this Rolex Submariner Date
Rolex launched the Submariner in 1953 to meet the demands of scuba diving. Originally designed as a technical tool, it has gradually incorporated more urban design elements. The 16610LN model presented here exemplifies a commitment to advanced customisation. The original stainless steel is combined with gem-setting work carried out after the watch left the factory. This approach evokes the spirit of the exclusive jewellery variations produced in the Geneva workshops, where functional components give way to a gemstone structure.
Case, movement and bracelet of this Submariner Date
The 40 mm case is crafted from stainless steel. The lugs and protective shoulders feature diamonds set directly into the metal. The replacement blue dial features ringed geometric hour-markers and broad hands coated with luminescent material. The bezel insert is a customised piece combining blue sapphires and baguette-cut diamonds, with a triangular diamond at 12 o’clock. The watch is powered by the calibre 3135. This self-winding mechanical movement beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour. Fitted with 31 jewels, it offers a power reserve of 48 hours and drives the date window. It is fitted with a steel Oyster bracelet featuring three flat links, currently set with eight links and fastened with a machined folding clasp.
Why this Rolex watch
This configuration is aimed at buyers looking for a modified timepiece. The appeal of this model lies in the contrast between the functionality of a technical watch and the addition of bold aesthetic elements. The modifications made bring the watch’s appearance closer to that of the white gold versions, whilst retaining the original steel structure. It is a unique alternative on the second-hand market for enthusiasts of gem-set models.
