The history of this Rolex Datejust 41
The Datejust collection was launched in 1945 to mark the 40th anniversary of the founding of Rolex’s parent company. It made its mark on the watchmaking world by becoming the first self-winding, water-resistant watch to feature a date display in a window. The reference 126300 follows in this technical lineage. The Cyclops magnifying lens over the date first appeared in 1953. Hans Wilsdorf decided to add this functional feature to make it easier for his wife to read the date. This practical touch has become a visual hallmark of the Geneva-based manufacturer over the decades. The introduction of the 41 mm case responds to a demand for contemporary proportions whilst preserving the original design.

The 41 mm case is machined from a solid block of 904L Oystersteel. The smooth, polished bezel frames a blue dial with a sunburst finish. Light diffuses radially across this surface. The dial features applied baton-style hour markers and straight hands. These elements are coated with Chromalight, a blue-emitting luminescent material. The watch is powered by the Calibre 3235 self-winding mechanical movement. This internal mechanism is certified as a Superlative Chronometer. It guarantees a power reserve of 70 hours as well as instantaneous date change. Water resistance is ensured to 100 metres by the Twinlock screw-down crown. The Oyster bracelet features three links with alternating polished centres and brushed outer surfaces. It incorporates a folding clasp fitted with the Easylink comfort extension for a 5 mm adjustment.
