The history of this Rolex Datejust 41
The Geneva-based Maison unveiled its iconic model in 1945 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of its foundation. This creation marked a major technical milestone as it became the first water-resistant self-winding chronometer wristwatch to feature a date display in an aperture. However, the famous Cyclops lens did not appear in the original design. Hans Wilsdorf decided to add it and patent it in 1953 to help his wife, who had difficulty reading the date. This magnifying glass enlarges the date by 2.5 times and quickly became an indissociable aesthetic signature of the brand. This Rolex Datejust 41 reference 126300 modernises this heritage while retaining the harmonious proportions and robustness that have forged the legend of this collection.
Case, calibre and bracelet of this Datejust 41
This model comes in a 41 mm case fashioned from Oystersteel steel. This technical alloy guarantees exceptional resistance to corrosion and provides a brilliantly polished finish. The smooth steel bezel underlines the geometric purity of the whole and frames a bright blue dial with a sunray finish. This hue offers a deep play of light, shifting from electric blue to darker shades depending on the angle of the wrist. The baton hour-markers and hands are made of white gold to prevent tarnishing, and are adorned with Chromalight blue-emitting luminescent material. The screw-down crown ensures water-resistance tested to 100 metres. The watch is powered by calibre 3235. This mechanical self-winding Manufacture movement incorporates 31 jewels and beats at a frequency of 4 Hz. It offers a comfortable 70-hour power reserve. Wrist comfort is ensured by the 3-link Oyster bracelet with alternating polished surfaces in the centre and satin-finished surfaces on the outside. The Oysterclasp folding clasp features the Easylink quick extension system allowing the bracelet to be adjusted by approximately 5mm without any tools.
Why this Rolex watch
This configuration combining the smooth bezel with the Oyster bracelet and blue dial represents the most versatile expression of the collection. It offers a slightly sportier and sleeker aesthetic than the versions with fluted bezels. The brand's blue dials are particularly popular with the second-hand market, as they are equally suited to formal and casual wear. Acquiring this timepiece allows you to enjoy a timeless design equipped with the latest-generation mechanics while avoiding the long waits often seen on this type of highly sought-after configuration.
