The history of this Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional
Certified by NASA in 1965 for manned missions, the Speedmaster accompanied Buzz Aldrin to the Moon in July 1969. Unveiled in March 2024, the Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional, reference 310.30.42.50.04.001, breaks with the traditional black dial. Omega has drawn inspiration from the white spacesuits worn during extravehicular activities and the red stripes that have distinguished the commander since Apollo 13. The white colour also pays homage to the 1969 Alaska I, a prototype developed for NASA, whose white dial was chosen for its ability to reflect heat. The name ‘Speedmaster’ in red recalls the red protective case of that prototype. This is the first time a glossy lacquer finish has been applied to the Moonwatch’s stepped dial. Until now, white or silver dials had been reserved for limited editions or gold versions.
Case, movement and strap of this Speedmaster Moonwatch
The 42 mm steel case retains the line’s asymmetrical profile, with shoulders that protect the crown and the two pushers. The lyre-shaped lugs alternate between a brushed upper surface and polished bevels, with a thickness of 13.18 mm and a lug-to-lug width of 47.5 mm. The black aluminium bezel features the tachymeter scale and a dot positioned next to the 90 mark. The domed sapphire crystal is anti-reflective on the inside, and the sapphire caseback, engraved with ‘Master Chronometer’, reveals the movement. The watch is water-resistant to 50 metres. The white lacquered dial features a stepped flange and three recessed sub-dials with a concentric circular pattern. The faceted black applied hour markers are topped with a luminescent dot, whilst the dark hour and minute hands are fitted with luminescent inserts. The hand-wound Calibre 3861, certified as a Master Chronometer by METAS, beats at 3 Hz and offers a power reserve of approximately 50 hours. It combines a Co-Axial escapement with a silicon balance spring and is resistant to magnetic fields of 15,000 gauss. Its rhodium-plated bridges and 26 jewels are visible through the case back. The steel bracelet, with brushed links and polished sides, fastens with a folding clasp featuring a ribbed cover stamped with the Omega logo.
Why this Omega watch
This version combines the Moonwatch’s modern mechanical movement with a lacquered dial that remains understated for everyday wear. The contrast between the white dial and the black bezel ensures the chronograph sub-dials are clearly legible, and the steel bracelet makes it suitable for any occasion. Purchased in March 2025, it remains covered by the Omega warranty until March 2030, meaning it can be bought second-hand with the same peace of mind as a brand-new piece.
Contents and condition
The watch is supplied as a full set, with its Speedmaster Professional presentation box, outer box, instruction booklet, international warranty cards, Master Chronometer and pictogram cards, as well as a sachet of spare links. The warranty card is dated March 2025, for a purchase made at the Omega Boutique in Geneva. The watch, in very good condition, has been worn but retains sharp edges and even brushing, and neither the crystal nor the dial show any visible flaws. For the buyer, this is a recent and complete timepiece, ready to wear.
