The history of this Omega Speedmaster Mark II
This Omega follows directly in the lineage of the Speedmaster, an iconic chronograph launched in the late 1950s and now a cornerstone of sports watchmaking. Originally introduced in 1969, the Mark II stands out with its distinctive tonneau-shaped case, designed for improved legibility and a more sport-oriented use. This modern interpretation faithfully preserves that spirit while adapting it to contemporary standards, offering a dynamic alternative to the classic Speedmaster Moonwatch.
Case, calibre and bracelet
This Omega, reference 327.10.43.50.01.001, features a stainless steel case measuring 42.4 × 46.2 mm, giving it a strong presence on the wrist. It’s powered by the Omega calibre 3330 automatic movement, a modern chronograph offering a power reserve of approximately 52 hours. The chronograph minutes counter at 3 o’clock, the chronograph hours display and a date window at 6 o’clock ensure clear and functional reading. Luminous hands and hour markers provide excellent legibility. The customised screw-down case back is fitted with a sapphire crystal revealing the movement. The watch is completed by a stainless steel bracelet with an Omega covered folding clasp.
Why this watch
This Speedmaster Mark II appeals through its balance between heritage and modernity. The tonneau case design delivers a strong and instantly recognisable identity, while the automatic calibre 3330 offers everyday comfort and reliability. It’s aimed at sports chronograph enthusiasts looking for a Speedmaster with a bold character, different from the traditional Moonwatch, while retaining the technical and aesthetic DNA of the collection.
