The history of this Omega Speedmaster
The Speedmaster collection has a heritage linked to space exploration. Whilst the first models were used to time motor races as early as 1957, certification by NASA cemented this chronograph’s place in watchmaking history. This Omega Speedmaster, reference 304.23.44.52.06.001, features a depiction of the moon created using micro-structured metallic crystal glass. When viewed under a magnifying glass, this celestial disc reveals the boot print left during the Apollo 11 mission. A hidden historical detail on the dial for the owner.
Case, movement and strap of this Speedmaster
This 44 mm model combines stainless steel with 18-carat Sedna gold developed by the manufacture. The green ceramic bezel features a Ceragold tachymeter scale. The grey sunburst-finished dial highlights the sword-shaped hour markers and hands crafted from Sedna gold. The dial layout centres on a date display with a hand at 9 o’clock and a moon phase complication at 6 o’clock. The watch is powered by the automatic Calibre 9904 movement, visible through the sapphire crystal case back. This movement features 54 jewels and offers a 60-hour power reserve, as well as certified magnetic resistance up to 15,000 gauss. The watch is secured by a grey alligator leather strap fitted with a steel folding clasp. It is water-resistant to 100 metres.
Why this Omega watch
The combination of steel and Sedna gold with a grey dial and a green bezel creates an unusual design. This timepiece combines the precision of a co-axial movement with a traditional horological complication. The second-hand market allows buyers to acquire this specific model at a price that makes sense for those seeking a technical yet elegant chronograph.
