The history of this Omega Speedmaster ’57
This Omega is directly rooted in the heritage of the very first Speedmaster chronograph launched in 1957, recognizable by its engraved tachymeter bezel and distinctly sporty spirit. This modern reinterpretation retains the founding aesthetic codes of the collection while incorporating contemporary technical developments. The Speedmaster ’57 thus stands apart from the classic Moonwatch with a more versatile approach, designed for everyday wear while remaining true to the historic DNA of the Speedmaster. This September 2024 version perfectly embodies the link between watchmaking tradition and modern innovation.
Case, calibre and bracelet
This Omega, reference 331.12.42.51.01.001, features a 41.5 mm stainless steel case paired with an engraved tachymeter bezel. The black two-counter dial displays a small seconds at 9 o’clock, a chronograph counter combining hours and minutes at 3 o’clock, as well as a date window at 6 o’clock. The luminous hands and indexes ensure excellent legibility. A sapphire crystal protects the dial, while the transparent screw-down case back reveals the movement. The watch is powered by the Omega Co-Axial 9300 automatic calibre, composed of 54 jewels, beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offering a power reserve of approximately 60 hours. The watch is fitted with a brown calfskin leather strap with an Omega stainless steel folding clasp. Water resistance is guaranteed to 100 meters.
Why choose this watch
The Speedmaster ’57 appeals through its balance between iconic design and modern performance. Its 41.5 mm diameter gives it a strong presence on the wrist while remaining comfortable for everyday wear. The Co-Axial 9300 calibre offers smooth chronograph operation and proven reliability, while the bicompax display with date enhances its practicality. The fact that this model is no longer part of the Omega catalogue also makes it particularly attractive to Speedmaster enthusiasts seeking a distinctive and accomplished version.
