The history of this Omega Speedmaster Apollo 11
This Omega was unveiled in 2014 to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the first Moon landing in 1969, a landmark event in space and watchmaking history. Used during all six lunar missions, the Speedmaster has become Omega’s emblematic watch and one of the most famous chronographs ever produced. This Apollo 11 edition, strictly limited and numbered to 1 969 pieces, pays tribute to this extraordinary human adventure and to the legendary chronograph that accompanied astronauts on the Moon. Today, this model is no longer available in the Omega catalogue, reinforcing its status as a collector’s watch.
Case, calibre and bracelet
This Speedmaster is powered by the Omega calibre 1861 manual-winding chronograph movement, composed of 18 jewels, beating at 21 600 vibrations per hour and offering a 45-hour power reserve, a historic calibre famous for having been used on the Moon. The 42 mm satin-finished grade 2 titanium case is fitted with a sapphire crystal and secured by a screw-down titanium case back. The Sedna rose gold bezel incorporates a grey tachymeter scale. The matte grey triple-counter dial features a 30-minute counter, a 12-hour counter and a small seconds at 9 o’clock, with luminescent Sedna rose gold hands and indexes, whose aesthetic details were shaped using a specific laser process. The watch is fitted with a brown Omega NATO-style strap, completed by an Omega titanium pin buckle.
