The story behind this Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra
This pre-owned Omega Aqua Terra belongs to the Seamaster family, the Bienne-based brand’s marine line, of which it is the more dressy variant. It retains the 150-metre water resistance of a marine watch whilst featuring a more understated design, suited to city life. Its dial features the ‘teak’ motif, with vertical grooves modelled on the wooden decks of pleasure boats. This Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M, reference 231.13.42.21.02.003 is powered by the calibre 8500, the in-house movement that Omega introduced in 2007 with the De Ville Hour Vision to house its Co-Axial escapement. Here, it is fitted with the Master Co-Axial version, designed to withstand magnetic fields exceeding 15,000 gauss.
Case, calibre and strap of this Aqua Terra
The 41.5 mm diameter stainless steel case features alternating brushed surfaces and polished chamfers, set against a polished bezel and a screw-down crown. At 12.95 mm thick, it slips easily under a shirt cuff. The domed sapphire crystal, with anti-reflective coating on both sides, protects a silver-lacquered dial whose rose gold-tone applied hour markers are accented with a white insert. The hands are in the same shade, with the minute hand ending in an arrow, and a date window is positioned at 3 o’clock. On the back, a sapphire caseback reveals the calibre 8500, a Co-Axial automatic movement certified as a chronometer, with bidirectional winding. Its two barrels, mounted in series, ensure a power reserve of 60 hours, operating at a frequency of 25,200 vibrations per hour across 39 jewels. The watch is fitted with a cognac-coloured leather strap with cream topstitching, lined and bearing the Omega logo, fastened with a steel folding clasp stamped with the brand’s logo.
Why this Omega watch
Omega no longer produces this model. The current Aqua Terra has moved to a 41 mm case and a new generation of Master Chronometer calibres, meaning that this particular configuration – with its grooved silver dial and rose gold-tone accents on a leather strap – can now only be found on the second-hand market. It features a chronometer-certified in-house calibre, sapphire crystal on both sides and is water-resistant to 150 metres. The set offers a practical advantage, as the original dark brown alligator strap is included alongside the cognac-coloured leather strap. Simply changing the strap allows you to switch from a casual look to a more formal one, without having to buy anything else.
Contents and condition
This Omega Aqua Terra comes in its original Omega wooden presentation box and cardboard outer box, along with the instruction booklet, an Omega envelope, a red Omega case and a zipped travel pouch containing a tool and the second alligator strap. It comes with the Omega invoice dated December 2020; the warranty card is not included. Having been worn, it shows only slight signs of wear. The case remains pristine, the dial has no visible flaws and the cognac-coloured strap bears subtle signs of wear.
