The history of this Omega Seamaster
The Seamaster range was introduced in 1948 to meet the needs of pilots and sailors seeking robust, water-resistant timepieces. In 1993, the brand reimagined this collection with the launch of the Diver 300M. This evolution incorporated the helium escape valve and the wave motif on the dial. These technical features, originally designed for professional diving, quickly became an aesthetic signature. The decision to combine steel and yellow gold on this chronograph, reference 210.20.44.51.03.001, is in keeping with a watchmaking tradition where functionality meets fine materials. The blue ceramic enhances scratch resistance whilst offering a depth of colour that reacts to the light.
Case, calibre and strap of this Seamaster Diver 300M
The asymmetrical case measures 44 mm in diameter and alternates between brushed stainless steel surfaces and polished 18-carat yellow gold accents. The unidirectional rotating bezel features a blue ceramic ring inlaid with a Ceragold diving scale. The blue ceramic dial is laser-engraved with a wave pattern. It displays the hours via raised yellow gold hour-markers filled with white luminescent material. Two recessed sub-dials at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock show the chronograph and seconds. The movement is the self-winding Calibre 9900. This Master Chronometer-certified chronograph operates at a frequency of 4 Hz and guarantees a power reserve of 60 hours. It is visible through the sapphire crystal case back. The five-link articulated bracelet combines steel and yellow gold, secured by a folding clasp.
Why this Omega watch
This two-tone chronograph stands out for its balance between marine technicality and a statement-making presence. The combination of yellow gold and blue ceramic creates a striking contrast that is highly prized by collectors. On the pre-owned market, this configuration presents an opportunity to acquire a chronograph complication with a high level of anti-magnetic certification. The calibre 9900 features a column-wheel mechanism that ensures crisp and precise push-button operation. The inclusion of the original certificate of authenticity reinforces the traceability of this timepiece and provides assurance for the purchase.
