The story behind this Omega Seamaster Diver 300M
The story behind this Omega Seamaster Diver 300M has its roots in spy films. Created to celebrate 60 years of the British secret agent’s adventures on the big screen, the reference 210.30.42.20.03.002 bridges the gap between watchmaking tradition and film culture. In 1995, costume designer Lindy Hemming chose this model to adorn the character’s wrist. She believed that a naval commander could only wear a diving watch that combined robustness with discretion. This anniversary edition retains the aesthetic of the original model whilst incorporating the manufacture’s latest technical innovations. The result is a functional timepiece that tells a specific story.
Case, movement and strap of this Seamaster Diver 300M
The 42 mm case is crafted from stainless steel. It features alternating brushed and polished finishes. The unidirectional rotating bezel features an oxalic blue aluminium insert, where the usual luminous marker is replaced by the number 60. The blue anodised aluminium dial is laser-engraved with a wave pattern. It features raised hour markers and skeletonised hands coated with luminescent material. The lollipop-style seconds hand adds a distinctive touch. The sapphire crystal case back reveals a mechanical animation linked to the rotation of the seconds hand. This complication reproduces the moiré effect seen in film credits using a micro-structured disc. The movement is powered by the self-winding Calibre 8806. This mechanism offers a power reserve of 55 hours and high resistance to magnetic fields. The watch is secured to the wrist with a stainless steel Milanese mesh bracelet fitted with a folding clasp. Its water resistance allows for dives to a depth of 300 metres.
Why this Omega watch
This timepiece catches the eye with its balance between a professional diving watch and a collector’s item. The absence of a date window lends symmetry to the dial, a feature sought after for its readability. The mechanical movement concealed on the back of the case is a technical feature that adds a certain appeal. This model is aimed at enthusiasts seeking a reliable everyday watch with an exclusive detail. It represents an opportunity to acquire a technical edition with limited distribution.
