The history of this Omega Seamaster 300
In 1957, Omega launched the Seamaster 300, designed for divers and professionals working underwater, in the same year as the Speedmaster and the Railmaster. This Omega Seamaster 300 Master Co-Axial, reference 233.30.41.21.01.001, produced from 2014 to 2021, faithfully reproduces the design features of that original model. It features the ‘broad arrow’ hour hand, the numerals 3, 6, 9 and 12, triangular hour markers and a diving bezel graduated to 60 minutes. Omega has adapted this archive design for the modern era, featuring a ceramic insert, a Liquidmetal scale and a non-magnetic movement. It was from this model that the brand drew inspiration in 2015 for the limited edition worn by James Bond in *Spectre*.
Case, calibre and strap of this Seamaster 300
The 41 mm 316L stainless steel case features alternating polished and satin-finished surfaces, with a lug-to-lug width of 21 mm and a thickness of 14.65 mm. The rotating bezel features a polished black ceramic insert, graduated in Liquidmetal. The sandblasted black dial is fitted with rhodium-plated hands and hour markers coated in vintage-style Super-LumiNova, beneath a domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating on the inside. This cream shade contrasts sharply with the black of the dial and ensures clear readability in daylight. The screw-down crown guarantees water resistance to 300 metres. The sapphire case back reveals the self-winding Master Co-Axial calibre 8400, certified as a chronometer. Its two barrels mounted in series provide a power reserve of 60 hours, with a silicon balance spring and a frequency of 25,200 vibrations per hour. Its non-ferromagnetic components protect it from magnetic fields of up to 15,000 gauss, and the hour hand adjusts automatically to change time zones whilst travelling. The steel bracelet, with polished and satin-finished links, fastens with an Omega-branded folding clasp.
Why this Omega watch
The Seamaster 300 Master Co-Axial has not been in production since 2021 and is no longer available in Omega boutiques. Second-hand markets are therefore the only way to acquire this steel-on-steel version, with its black dial and cream-coloured luminescence that pay direct homage to the 1957 model. Its 41 mm diameter, 300-metre water resistance and the Calibre 8400’s resistance to magnetism make it a diving watch suitable for everyday wear. Serviced by Omega, supplied complete and in mint condition, it offers everything one looks for in a pre-owned watch: original paperwork, a recent service at the brand’s workshop and a well-preserved case.
