The story behind this Vicenterra GMT-3
The independent Swiss watchmaker Vicenterra is the brainchild of Vincent Plomb. He harboured a dream of observing the Earth from space. Unable to make such a journey, he decided to miniaturise our planet and bring it directly to the wrist. The GMT-3 Tome 4 Tour du Monde model thus fulfils a quest for mechanical poetry and escapism. The unique feature of this timepiece lies in its three-dimensional globe, which completes a full rotation in 24 hours. The small golden arrow, supported by the sailboat-shaped appliqué on the dial, points precisely to the area of the globe where the sun is at its zenith. Vincent Plomb founded the brand in the Swiss Jura mountains to offer an alternative approach to time. This watch is aimed at connoisseurs of fine watchmaking seeking a legible and original travel complication.
Case, movement and strap of this GMT-3
The case features a tonneau shape measuring 44 mm by 54 mm. Carved from a block of grade 5 titanium, the case features a subtle contrast between finely brushed sides and polished chamfers. A complex sapphire crystal protects the blue galvanic dial, whose horizontal striations evoke the teak deck of a ship. A day-and-night disc engraved with a sun and stars complements the practical features for the frequent traveller. The display features a retrograde date on the right and a second independent time zone. The hand-lacquered globe is set within a dedicated recess. The automatic movement is based on the ETA 2892 calibre, supplemented by an exclusive module developed by the manufacture, offering a 42-hour power reserve and operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour. The watch is water-resistant to 50 metres. The blue alligator leather strap complements the lines of the case and fastens with a titanium folding clasp. On the back, the sapphire crystal caseback allows the finishes of the movement to be admired, notably the guilloché bridges and the openworked oscillating weight.
