The history of this Rolex Submariner
An archetypal diver born in 1953 to meet the demands of deep-sea professionals, the Submariner defined the codes of the modern sports watch. Reference 14060, introduced in the early 1990s, is often described by collectors as the last of the best. It represents the perfect missing link in the chronology of the Geneva manufacture. It is the first undated version to be equipped with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and a Triplock crown, while retaining the historical attributes that are so highly prized today. It features pierced horns for an assertive utilitarian look and a black aluminium insert destined to develop a patina over time. The absence of a date window preserves the absolute symmetry of the dial intended by René-Paul Jeanneret when he created the original model. Stamped with the serial letter W, this model bears witness to a production run completed in 1995.
Case, calibre and bracelet of this Submariner
Fabricated in stainless steel, this case measuring 40 mm in diameter and 47 mm from lug to lug offers ideal proportions on the wrist. Its mirror-polished sides contrast elegantly with the satin-finish upper lugs. Protected by a flat sapphire crystal, the deeply lacquered black dial is perfectly legible. It features geometric hour-markers encircled in white gold and an iconic set of hands including the Mercedes hour, the glaive minute and the lollipop second hand. These elements are filled with tritium. This luminescent material, indicated by the wording at the base of the dial, here takes on a superb homogeneous cream-coloured patina. The watch is powered by the calibre 3000 automatic movement, oscillating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and fitted with 27 jewels, guaranteeing a power reserve of 42 hours. The screw-down caseback ensures water-resistance to 300 metres. The whole is mounted on its original Oyster bracelet reference 93150 with 501B end pieces and safety folding clasp incorporating a diving extension.
Why this Rolex watch
The neo-vintage charm of this timepiece lies in its perfect balance between technical modernity and old-fashioned aesthetics. The so-called 2-line configuration on the dial is explained by the fact that this movement was not subject to chronometer certification at the time, thus lightening the literature for maximum purity. Finding an example from this transitional period with such a desirable patina and lugs that retain a good thickness becomes a real challenge for discerning enthusiasts. It is a timeless acquisition combining history and robustness.
Delivered contents and condition

The dial is immaculate and the bracelet shows only a tiny stretch entirely consistent with its almost 30 years of existence.
