The Hermès print *Les Voitures à Transformation* by Françoise de La Perrière
Designed by Françoise de La Perrière and first published in 1965, *Les Voitures à Transformation* is one of the prints that Hermès regularly reissues. The composition is inspired by a volume from the Émile Hermès collection devoted to the coachwork exhibited at the Great Exhibition in London in 1851, which featured modular carriages and coupés with retractable tops. The design incorporates these separate elements – bodies, hoods, wheels and seats – arranged around a central medallion bearing the scarf’s title against a wickerwork background.
Material, dimensions and finishes
The square is crafted from silk twill in size 90, measuring approximately 90 × 90 cm, with rolled edges. This version features a dark green border and an ivory background, outlined by a yellow line resembling a rope. The carriages stand out in green, golden yellow, brown, pink and black, and two crossed whips frame the central medallion. The inscription ‘HERMÈS-PARIS ©’ appears at the bottom centre and the signature ‘LA PERRIERE’ in the bottom right-hand corner. The weave pattern, formed by fine yellow lines, remains visible once the scarf is folded and tied.
