Originally introduced in 1971 to meet the extreme demands of cavers and volcanologists plunged into total darkness, the Rolex Explorer II has a vital function. The Oystersteel steel case is 42 mm in diameter and offers a robust presence on the wrist. It features a satin-brushed fixed bezel with engraved and blackened 24-hour graduations. Protected by a flat sapphire crystal with Cyclops magnifying glass, the white lacquered dial nicknamed Polar is distinguished by its hour-markers encircled by black oxidised white gold. The blue Chromalight luminescent material provides striking contrast and optimal legibility. The watch is powered by Calibre 3187, a self-winding mechanical movement manufactured by the brand. This mechanism incorporates Paraflex shock absorbers and guarantees a 48-hour power reserve. The whole is mounted on its reference 77210 Oyster bracelet with solid brushed links, secured by an Oysterlock clasp incorporating the 5 mm Easylink comfort extension.
