The history of this Rolex Datejust
The Datejust was launched in 1945 to mark the 40th anniversary of the Geneva-based manufacturer. It introduced a date display in a window on a self-winding chronometer. Reference 178274 continues this line with a 31 mm case. The 5-link Jubilee bracelet accompanied the launch of the original model. This timepiece meets the demand for a precise and discreet everyday watch.
Case, calibre and bracelet of this Datejust
The 31 mm case combines Oystersteel with a fluted bezel in 18-carat white gold. The natural white mother-of-pearl dial features 10 diamonds set in closed settings within 18-carat white gold bezels. The date display is topped by a Cyclops lens. The movement is the self-winding, chronometer-certified calibre 2235. It operates at 4 Hz and offers a power reserve of 48 hours. It incorporates 31 jewels. The Super Jubilee steel bracelet alternates between brushed outer links and polished central links. It is fitted with the invisible Crownclasp clasp. The Twinlock screw-down crown guarantees water resistance to 100 metres.
Why this Rolex watch
Reference 178274 combines a white mother-of-pearl dial with diamond-set hour-markers. It is distinguished by its invisible Crownclasp clasp. This seamless integration maintains the visual continuity of the Jubilee bracelet. This design was replaced by a visible clasp on subsequent generations. It represents an interesting technical and aesthetic alternative on the second-hand market.
