In 1993, Chopard shook up the traditional conventions of watchmaking by launching the Happy Sport collection. For the first time, stainless steel was combined with diamonds in a creation that embodied uninhibited luxury. The major innovation lay in the concept of moving diamonds, conceived a few years earlier by the designer Ronald Kurowski. He had the idea of freeing the gemstones from their fixed settings to allow them to slide freely between two sapphire crystals, recreating the magic of water droplets bouncing off a waterfall.
