The history of this Chopard Mille Miglia Chronograph Split Second
This Chopard, reference 168995-3002, is among the most technical models in the Mille Miglia collection, developed as a tribute to the legendary 1,000 Miglia automobile race, of which Chopard has been official partner and timekeeper since 1988. This Split Second (rattrapante) version stands out for its rare horological complication, allowing the measurement of simultaneous intermediate times, directly inspired by the needs of automotive timing. Produced as a limited and numbered edition of 1,000 pieces, it’s aimed at high-end chronograph enthusiasts and seasoned collectors.
Case, movement and bracelet
This watch features a 44 mm stainless steel case, paired with a steel bezel engraved with a tachymeter scale, a direct reference to the world of motor racing. It’s powered by a self-winding mechanical movement offering a 42-hour power reserve, 37 jewels and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The black dial with four silver subdials displays the chronograph hours at 12 o’clock, chronograph minutes at 12 o’clock, the date at 3 o’clock and the small seconds at 9 o’clock, completed by a split-seconds arrow hand, luminescent indexes and hands for optimal legibility. The whole is protected by an anti-reflective sapphire crystal and a screwed caseback with sapphire crystal, revealing the movement. The watch is delivered with a black rubber strap featuring a tyre-tread motif, a Mille Miglia signature, as well as a perforated black leather strap with red stitching, secured by a Chopard-signed stainless steel folding clasp. Water-resistant to 50 metres.
