The history of this Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore
Audemars Piguet launched the Offshore collection in 1993. Designed by Emmanuel Gueit, this evolution of Gérald Genta’s original design responded to a demand for sportier watches with more substantial proportions. In the early 2000s, the manufacture unveiled the reference 25940SK.OO.D002CA.01. Nicknamed ‘Rubber Clad’, it features a rubber coating applied directly to the octagonal bezel. This technical approach combines steel with an elastomer specifically designed to absorb shocks.
Case, calibre and strap of this Royal Oak Offshore
The 42 mm steel case features alternating brushed surfaces and polished chamfers. It is topped by a matt black bezel secured by eight hexagonal steel screws. The black dial features the textured ‘Méga Tapisserie’ pattern and offers a sharp contrast to the three silver-coloured chronograph sub-dials. Luminescent Arabic numerals ensure easy time-reading, whilst the date is displayed under a magnifying window. This timepiece is powered by the self-winding calibre 2225, which delivers a 40-hour power reserve. The case is water-resistant to 100 metres and features moulded pushers. The watch is mounted on a supple black rubber strap fastened with an AP-signed steel folding clasp.
Why this Audemars Piguet watch
This model is no longer produced by the manufacturer. It represents an important technical milestone for the Offshore range. Acquiring an example with its original finish intact presents a wonderful opportunity for enthusiasts of sports chronographs. Its colour scheme, combining deep black with polished steel, ensures clear readability whilst remaining faithful to the line’s historic design.
Contents and condition
This example from the F series comes with its original Audemars Piguet green wooden presentation box and an extract from the official register dated May 2024. The watch has recently undergone professional polishing, which has precisely revived the brushed finish and the edges of the case. The black material on the bezel and pushers has a uniform, matt finish, confirming that it has been well looked after. The rubber strap remains supple and in excellent condition.
