The history of the Italian watchmaker began in 1942 when Ilvo Fontana received a commission from the navy to design a measuring instrument that could be read in the dark. This project only came to fruition 60 years later, driven by his grandson Italo Fontana. The Thousands of Feet watch, reference 4350, draws on this heritage. It meets the need for a robust and functional timepiece. The angular design of this model is inspired by the on-board instruments of submarines from that era, ensuring a clear reading of the time.
Case, movement and strap of this Thousands of Feet
The 50 mm case features a square shape crafted from stainless steel with a black PVD coating. The case incorporates a notched crown offset at 9 o’clock. This configuration ensures freedom of movement despite the watch’s substantial size. The matt black dial features yellow hour markers and Arabic numerals coated with luminescent material. A date window is positioned at 9 o’clock. Through the sapphire crystal caseback, the ETA 2824 calibre, fitted with 25 jewels, can be seen. This movement beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides a power reserve of 38 hours. The watch is water-resistant to 100 metres. It is fitted with a perforated black leather strap fastened with a black PVD-coated pin buckle.
