The history of this Tissot PRX

In 1978, Tissot unveiled a landmark model initially named the Seastar Quartz. The acronym PRX soon emerged to define its key characteristics. The letter P stands for precision, the R emphasises robustness and the X, the Roman numeral for 10, indicates its water resistance to 10 atmospheres. The range thus responded to a growing demand for watches with a bracelet integrated into the case, a prominent architectural trend of that decade. The Tissot PRX, reference 931.407.41.041.00, draws directly on this heritage whilst adding a contemporary mechanical dimension. The incorporation of a fluted bezel in solid 18-carat rose gold transforms the original design and anchors the timepiece in a more textured approach to watchmaking. Case, movement and strap of this PRX

The 40 mm diameter case is characterised by a tonneau-shaped design in brushed stainless steel. The absence of traditional lugs allows the bracelet to integrate directly into the fluid extension of the main case. The fixed, fluted bezel in solid rose gold frames a flat sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating. The dial features a smooth surface with a deep blue sunray finish. This background is set with raised hour markers and baton-shaped hands treated with rose gold PVD. The centres of the main hands contain white luminescent material to ensure night-time readability. A date window displays the date in black lettering on a white background at 3 o’clock. The open case back reveals the ETA Powermatic 80.111 self-winding mechanical movement. This movement offers an 80-hour power reserve and beats at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour. It features 23 jewels and utilises a non-magnetic Nivachron balance spring to counteract everyday magnetic fields. The stainless steel bracelet extends from the case with a uniform vertical brushed finish. It fastens with a butterfly clasp fitted with two safety pushers.

These slight marks are evidence of careful wear and do not in any way affect the geometry or the brushed finish of the case. Polishing is available upon the customer’s request.
