Tissot has had its roots in Le Locle since 1853 and is renowned for its technical and meticulous Swiss watchmaking. In 1978, the brand introduced a stainless steel model characterised by a slim tonneau-shaped case and a fluid, fully integrated bracelet. The letters ‘PR’ stood for ‘Precise’ and ‘Robust’, whilst the Roman numeral ‘X’ denoted its proven water resistance to 10 atmospheres. The Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 T137.907.97.201.00 watch reinterprets this historic design in a contemporary style. It utilises a material derived from advanced engineering. Each case, crafted from forged carbon, features a composition of fibres compressed at high temperature. This technical process makes the pattern on each piece visually unique.
Case, movement and strap of this PRX
This timepiece has a diameter of 40 mm and a thickness of 11 mm. Its geometric lugless case combines a matt black carbon composite with a transparent caseback. The circular bezel frames a sapphire crystal. The dial, crafted from the same dark, marbled material, features applied baton hour-markers and straight hands coated with luminescent material. A date window is positioned at 3 o’clock on a black disc. The watch is powered by the Powermatic 80 calibre, which operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and offers a power reserve of 80 hours. This automatic movement features 23 jewels and a non-magnetic balance spring. The watch is water-resistant to 100 metres. It is worn on a black textured rubber strap fastened with a black PVD-coated steel pin buckle.
