The history of this Rolex Yacht-Master
The House of Rolex developed the Yacht-Master collection to meet the requirements of navigators and yachting professionals. This timepiece is part of the historical relationship uniting the brand with the world of competitive sailing since the 1950s. The Rolex Yacht-Master 42 reference 226627-78JB37 introduces a highly technical alloy to this sporty range for the very first time. This material choice stems directly from an experimental prototype developed in 2021 for Sir Ben Ainslie during his intensive training for the America's Cup. This collaboration on the water allowed the structure's resistance and lightness to be tested in real-world conditions prior to its official commercial release. This model occupies a unique place in the catalogue by offering a sleek aesthetic that clearly stands out from the brand's other traditional diving watches.
Case, calibre and bracelet of this Yacht-Master
The round case features a diameter of 42 mm and is entirely manufactured from RLX Titanium. This structure integrates subtly brushed lugs as well as a screw-down solid case back ensuring a certified water resistance of 100 metres. The bidirectional rotatable bezel accommodates a matte black Cerachrom ceramic insert on which polished raised numerals and graduations stand out. Under the scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, the matte black dial houses raised geometric hour markers rimmed in white gold and full professional hands filled with blue-emitting luminescent material. A window for the date complication is positioned at 3 o'clock under the Cyclops magnifying lens. The automatic movement is equipped with the calibre 3235 which provides an autonomy and power reserve of 70 hours. This high-precision mechanism beats at a frequency of 4 Hz. The titanium-brushed Oyster bracelet features matte finishes and secures with an Oysterlock safety clasp equipped with the 5 mm Easylink rapid extension link.
Why this Rolex watch
Acquiring this timepiece on the pre-owned market represents a choice opportunity sought after by enthusiasts of technical discretion. This RLX Titanium model is subject to highly restricted distribution in official boutiques which makes its immediate availability at The Swiss Collector particularly interesting for collectors. The choice of this specific alloy offers an excellent balance between the presence of a 42 mm diameter on the wrist and the absolute comfort of a featherlight weight for daily wear. This clean iteration allows one to own an exclusive sports watch that avoids the ostentation of traditional precious metals while fully retaining its intrinsic horological value.
