The story behind this Rolex Oyster Perpetual
The introduction of lacquered dials to the Oyster Perpetual range in 2020 sent shockwaves through the watchmaking industry. Behind this bold aesthetic choice, the Geneva-based manufacturer pays a discreet tribute to its own heritage with the famous Stella dials from the 1970s. Often shunned upon their release on Day-Date models, these vibrantly coloured dials have, over time, become centrepieces at auction houses. By reintroducing these pure colours on its most minimalist model, the brand has combined the reliability of its modern watches with the boldness of its archives. This model bears the reference number 126000 and is fully in keeping with this spirit of rediscovery.
Case, movement and bracelet of this Oyster Perpetual
This timepiece features a 36 mm Oystersteel case. The smooth, domed bezel frames a flat sapphire crystal that protects the coral-red lacquered dial. The dial features applied white gold hour markers, doubled at the 3, 6 and 9 o’clock positions for optimal time-reading. The straight hands, also crafted from white gold, incorporate blue-emitting Chromalight luminescent material. The Oyster bracelet, with three wide links, features a brushed finish on the top and a polished finish on the edges. It fastens with a folding clasp incorporating a 5 mm comfort extension. The watch is powered by the Calibre 3230 automatic movement, which delivers a power reserve of 70 hours. This Superlative Chronometer ensures rigorous accuracy and proven water resistance to 100 metres.
Why this Rolex watch
The main appeal of this model lies in the brevity of its production run. Introduced in late 2020, the coral red dial was withdrawn from the catalogue in spring 2022. Its particularly short production run makes it a rare and sought-after model on the secondary market. It strikes a fine balance between the understated elegance of a classic 36 mm case and the visual impact of a striking, historic colour.
