The story behind this Gelfman IN-16 Nixie
With the IN-16 Nixie model, Gelfman offers a different take on contemporary watchmaking. Designed to rethink the way time is displayed, this watch incorporates authentic Soviet IN-16 gas-discharge tubes. These historic components, produced during the Cold War and impossible to find since the early 1990s, are brought back to life on the wrist. The IN-16 Nixie model meets the expectations of industrial design enthusiasts. Each tube represents a vintage functional element, fused with modern architecture to offer a luminous and unconventional time display.
Case, movement and strap of this IN-16 Nixie
The solid stainless steel case measures 46 mm by 48 mm and is 15.3 mm thick. Its design is centred around two cylinders with polished ends and brushed sides. The dial gives way to two sapphire crystals protecting the metal grilles with a honeycomb pattern. Beneath these protective layers lie the two glass tubes, revealing their internal filaments. The movement is a proprietary electronic calibre powered by a rechargeable battery. An internal accelerometer triggers the display of the hours and minutes whenever the wrist is tilted. The black rubber strap is integrated directly into the case and fastens with a steel folding clasp.
