The history of this Omega Memomatic
This Omega, reference 166.0071, is one of the most daring watches produced by the Maison Omega in the early 1970s. At a time marked by technical innovation and stylistic renewal, Omega developed this model as a true alternative to traditional mechanical alarm watches. The Memomatic stands out for its rare and advanced complication: a mechanical alarm adjustable to the minute, making this watch an emblematic testament to Omega’s horological expertise and a piece now highly sought after by collectors.
Case, calibre and bracelet
This watch is powered by the Omega manufacture calibre 980, an automatic mechanical movement integrating the alarm function, beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour and offering approximately 42 hours of power reserve. This calibre is distinguished by its minute-precise alarm system, a true technical feat for its time. It is housed in a 40 mm stainless steel case with a tonneau shape typical of the 1970s, fitted with two crowns: one for winding and time-setting, the other dedicated to adjusting the alarm. The watch is protected by a mineral crystal, ensures an original water resistance of 30 metres, and is fitted with a matching Omega stainless steel bracelet.
Why this watch
The Memomatic appeals through its unique character and mechanical ingenuity. It is aimed at vintage watch enthusiasts and complication collectors seeking a technical timepiece with a strong design identity. Its 40 mm diameter, distinctive 1970s aesthetics and precise mechanical alarm function make it a watch of character, both functional and singular, ideal for a seasoned collector or a mechanical watch enthusiast.
