The loose diamond in the Chopard Happy Spirit necklace
In 1976, Chopard allowed diamonds to move freely between two pieces of glass for the first time, creating Happy Diamonds. In the early 2000s, the House expanded on this concept with Chopard Happy Spirit, a line of concentric gold circles. This pre-owned piece is the 24 mm version, crafted entirely from 18-carat white gold, reference 79/5418-20. At the centre of the Chopard Happy Spirit pendant, a 0.10-carat brilliant-cut diamond, set in a closed setting, slides along two gold rings. The disc rests against the nape of the neck and the stone shifts position with every step, reflecting light at a different angle each time.
Architecture and jewellery craftsmanship
The outer bezel, with a satin-finished surface edged by polished facets, encases two sapphire crystals. The upper crystal bears the engraved Chopard signature. Between them, two white gold rings and the diamond’s bezel move independently of one another. The closed setting protects the diamond’s round cut from impact. A polished, articulated bail connects the motif to a filed double forçat chain, comprising two parallel strands joined at each end. The lobster clasp attaches to a plate engraved with the Chopard logo, a detail specific to the original chain. With no pavé setting, the white gold allows the moving diamond to take centre stage.
Why choose this pre-owned necklace
The collection is now available in two-tone or pavé versions, and this all-white gold design with a single diamond is no longer offered in this form. This pre-owned necklace offers a discontinued design, complete with its original double chain. The Maison’s craftsmanship remains intact, from the setting of the stones to the cutting of the links. For those seeking the Happy Diamonds signature in its most minimalist form, this second-hand piece offers generous 18-carat gold at a fraction of the cost of a current creation.
