The story behind this Baltic HMS 002
Baltic draws inspiration from 1940s timepieces to design watches with classic proportions. The HMS model focuses exclusively on hours, minutes and seconds, meeting a specific expectation amongst enthusiasts of mechanical timepieces. The design centres on a sector dial, an aesthetic prized during the Art Deco period for its perfect legibility. The case of this watch features a double-stepped bezel, an architectural detail known as a ‘step-case’ which requires meticulous machining to lend a distinctive depth to the watch’s profile.
Case, movement and strap of this HMS 002
This timepiece is housed in a 38 mm stainless steel case with a finish alternating between polished and brushed surfaces. The round shape is emphasised by sloping, perforated lugs, which make it easier to change the strap. The very dark anthracite dial is divided into two distinct zones, featuring a central matt, grainy disc and a brushed outer ring. The Arabic numerals and solid leaf-shaped hands reflect the light with understated elegance. The ultra-domed acrylic crystal accentuates the watch’s vintage character. The self-winding mechanical movement is visible through the sapphire crystal caseback. This Miyota 8315 calibre runs with regularity and offers a power reserve of 60 hours. A textured green leather strap completes this timepiece.
Why choose this Baltic watch
This design appeals thanks to its balance between the geometric precision of its sector dial and the warmth of the materials. Collectors appreciate the overall coherence of the neo-vintage design combined with the proven robustness of the mechanical movement.
