The story behind this Zenith Chronomaster Sport
Zenith’s heritage is inextricably linked to high-precision chronometry. In 1969, the launch of the El Primero movement left a lasting mark on the industry with its unprecedented frequency of 5 hertz. Whilst this mechanical heart was already measuring to a tenth of a second, the traditional display made it difficult to read. The Chronomaster Sport range and this model, reference 03.3100.3600/21.C822, provide a mechanical solution to this challenge. The watchmakers have increased the speed of the central seconds hand, which completes one full revolution of the dial in 10 seconds. The bezel thus serves as a direct and intuitive scale for reading this fraction of time. This technical development anchors this model in a pragmatic approach to fine watchmaking.
Case, calibre and strap of this Chronomaster Sport
The stainless steel case measures 41 mm in diameter. Its round shape, with brushed lugs and polished sides, highlights a fixed black ceramic bezel. The deep black lacquered dial features three blued sub-dials in the manufacture’s historic colour scheme, with silver, anthracite and blue finishes. The rhodium-plated hands and hour markers incorporate a light-coloured luminescent material for optimum night-time readability. The sapphire crystal case back reveals the El Primero 3600 calibre. This complex movement, comprising 311 components, beats at a frequency of 5 hertz and offers a 60-hour power reserve. A black rubber strap with a textile-effect finish and a folding clasp secures this watch, which is water-resistant to 100 metres.
