The story behind this TAG Heuer Monaco Gulf
TAG Heuer has long been associated with motor racing. In 1971, whilst filming the movie *Le Mans*, actor Steve McQueen decided to wear racing driver Jo Siffert’s Gulf-coloured racing suit. He paired it with a chronograph featuring a square case. The CAW211R model incorporates these asymmetrical stripes on the dial. This special edition is aimed at collectors seeking a timepiece steeped in motoring heritage.
Case, movement and strap of this Monaco Gulf
The 39 mm square case is crafted from stainless steel and topped with a bevelled sapphire crystal. It features alternating brushed surfaces and polished chamfers. The midnight blue sunburst dial features two vertical stripes in light blue and orange. Two square white opaline sub-dials display the chronograph minutes and the small seconds, whilst a date window reveals the date at 6 o’clock. On the back, the transparent case back reveals the Calibre 11. This self-winding mechanical movement offers a 40-hour power reserve. Its crown is positioned at 9 o’clock, opposite the pushers. The perforated blue calfskin strap is secured by a steel folding clasp. The watch is water-resistant to 100 metres.
