The sculptural architecture of a bridge setting
The jewellery aesthetics of the 1940s had a profound influence on the design of voluminous rings, replacing fragile prong settings with robust, geometric structures. The ‘bridge’ or ‘semi-closed’ setting follows this technical tradition, using strong metal elements to encase the stone whilst allowing light to pass through it. This second-hand ring perfectly illustrates this approach. It showcases a central brilliant-cut diamond weighing approximately 0.25 carats. Crafted from 18-carat rose gold, the metal displays a warm, coppery hue that contrasts beautifully with the crystalline transparency of the gemstones.
Architecture and jewellery craftsmanship
The architecture of the setting is characterised by a strong, assertive presence. The lower band flares out to an imposing width of 5.7 millimetres. The centre stone is securely held in place by two thick, smooth rose gold gadroons, creating a visual effect of suspension. The broad shoulders are structured into three parallel rows on each side. These channels are meticulously set with a total of 54 brilliant-cut diamonds, weighing approximately 0.27 carats. The entire smooth metal surface features a mirror-polished finish of the highest standard, catching the light on every geometric edge of the piece.
Why choose this second-hand band ring
Purchasing this pre-owned piece of jewellery is a wise decision. The ring features a generous amount of solid gold and a material density that has become rare in standardised contemporary designs, which are often hollowed out to keep costs down. The absence of a brand signature allows one to focus exclusively on the intrinsic value of the precious alloy and the precision of the setting of the 55 diamonds. This imposing structure ensures optimal durability for everyday wear, whilst guaranteeing a strong and highly structured visual impact on the hand.
Contents and condition
The inside of the ring is engraved with ‘750’, certifying the gold’s legal fineness. The ring is currently available in size 56. A partial resizing is possible on request from our workshop, thanks to the smooth surface of the lower band. Our craftsman has carried out a rigorous inspection of the setting of the central diamond and the integrity of the triple pavé setting on the sides.
