The history of this Rolex Datejust
In 1945, Rolex unveiled the Datejust model to mark the brand’s 40th anniversary. This creation became the first water-resistant, self-winding wristwatch to display the date in a window. The reference 116201 represents a major technical advancement in the history of the Geneva-based manufacturer. In 2005, the brand developed and patented Everose gold at its own foundry in Plan-les-Ouates. This alloy contains a proportion of platinum to prevent the copper from oxidising on contact with salt water or chlorine. This technical approach enables the watch to retain its distinctive rose colour over the decades.
Case, movement and bracelet of this Datejust
The 36 mm case combines Oystersteel with 18 ct Everose gold. A smooth, domed bezel frames a slate-grey dial adorned with a concentric pattern. Applied Roman numerals in rose gold adorn the dial, whilst the sapphire crystal features the Cyclops lens above the date. The three-link Oyster bracelet alternates between polished surfaces for the central gold section and brushed surfaces for the outer steel section. The movement is powered by the in-house Calibre 3135 automatic movement. This mechanism offers a 48-hour power reserve and features 31 jewels. The watch is water-resistant to 100 metres.

The set is in very good overall condition. A few slight micro-scratches, inherent to everyday wear, are visible on the polished parts of the rose gold. Polishing can be carried out at the buyer’s request to remove these superficial marks.
