The story behind this Roger Dubuis Easy Diver
Founded in Geneva in 1995, Roger Dubuis has made the Geneva Seal the benchmark for its in-house calibres. From 2004 onwards, several friends of the Maison asked for a well-crafted watch capable of keeping up with an active lifestyle. The response came in the form of the AquaMare and SeaMore collections, followed by the Sympathie EasyDiver – the first sports watch with a tourbillon on the market and the first Roger Dubuis case made of titanium. To highlight just how rare a mechanical sports watch was at the time, its dial bore the inscription ‘sport activity watch’. The 46 mm Roger Dubuis Easy Diver builds on this concept in stainless steel, under the reference SED46-14-91-00, in a limited edition of 888 numbered pieces. It draws on diving aesthetics with its rotating bezel, 300-metre water resistance and large numerals, whilst retaining a movement certified to Geneva standards.
Case, movement and strap of this Easy Diver
The 46 mm stainless steel case is fully brushed, with lugs secured by four visible screws. The brushed steel rotating bezel features raised numerals on black inserts, and the notched crown, encased in rubber, is stamped with the RD monogram. The silver-coloured dial features an embossed chequered centre, applied numerals at 12 o’clock, 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock, and applied hour markers with luminescent dots. The hour and minute hands are luminescent, and the small seconds dial at 6 o’clock rotates beneath a blue hand, echoing the blue numerals on the minute track. The sapphire crystal case back reveals the RD14 calibre, an 11½-ligne self-winding in-house movement, fitted with 33 jewels and regulated in five positions. Its Geneva Seal certification is stamped on the case back and attested by the certificate of origin supplied. The central oscillating weight features a sunburst finish, framed by a ring bearing the repeated RD monogram. The black alligator strap fastens with a Roger Dubuis-signed steel folding clasp, the cover of which is engraved with ‘Easy RD Diver’.
Why this Roger Dubuis watch
The Easy Diver is no longer featured in the brand’s catalogue, and its steel models with silver dials can now be found on the second-hand market. This pre-owned Roger Dubuis features a Geneva Seal-certified in-house calibre housed in a diving case water-resistant to 300 m. The silver dial and alligator strap give it a more formal look than the rubber versions, without detracting from its sporty design. It offers an introduction to the world of Roger Dubuis with a complete sports watch, supplied with its original documentation.
Contents and condition
The watch is supplied complete with its lacquered wooden Roger Dubuis presentation box, its black pouch, the certificate of origin and conformity from the Geneva Hallmark Office, the Roger Dubuis warranty card and the brand’s label. It is in good overall condition, showing signs of regular wear. The watch has not been polished, which preserves the original edges and brushed finish of the case, and the bezel retains visible signs of wear. The alligator strap shows wear to the stitching and the lining. Its operation has been checked by our partner watchmakers.
