The Milanese heritage of the Prada Saffiano wallet
Prada was founded in Milan in 1913, when Mario Prada and his brother Martino opened a shop selling trunks, travel goods and leather goods in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. In 1919, the House became an official supplier to the Royal House of Italy and was granted the right to incorporate the coat of arms of the House of Savoy into its logo. This coat of arms still appears beneath the silver-coloured metal ‘Prada Milano dal 1913’ logo on this pre-owned Prada men’s wallet, reference 2MO513 from the Saffiano Metal range. The black calfskin features the Saffiano cross-hatched grain, embossed in relief on the surface of the leather.
Materials, dimensions and finishes
The two-fold design measures 11 cm wide by 9.5 cm high when folded, and 22 cm when laid flat. On the front, a leather inlay strip runs diagonally across the bottom right-hand corner. It is edged with two tone-on-tone topstitches and bears the logo in silver metal lettering. The edges are dyed black. Inside, there are eight card slots – four on each side – situated beneath two note compartments. The ‘Prada Made in Italy’ marking is hot-stamped onto the left-hand pocket. When folded, it fits neatly into the inside pocket of a jacket.
