The aquamarines in these Pasquale Bruni earrings
Aquamarine takes its name from the Latin ‘aqua marina’, meaning ‘sea water’, and owes its pale blue hue to traces of iron contained within the beryl. These Pasquale Bruni earrings put it centre stage, featuring 26 round aquamarines and 8 round diamonds, totalling 2.80 carats of gemstones. The family-run house founded by the goldsmith Pasquale Bruni is based in Valenza, the goldsmiths’ town in Piedmont. This pair of 18-carat white gold drop earrings is offered here as a pre-owned piece.
Architecture and jewellery craftsmanship
Each earring hangs 5 cm down and consists of 6 articulated elements, linked by small rings. The first element is fixed to the stem, whilst the following five are movable and follow the movements of the head. Each features a central aquamarine set in prongs, flanked by one or two smaller stones. The elements form a slightly twisted shuttle shape. In total, each loop features 6 large aquamarines, 7 smaller ones and 4 diamonds. The 8 diamonds in the pair total approximately 0.17 carats. The back of each setting is openwork, allowing light to pass through the aquamarines from behind. The clasp consists of a stem and a wide, heart-shaped push-button clasp engraved with the Pasquale Bruni signature.
Why these second-hand earrings?
This pair is no longer featured in Pasquale Bruni’s current catalogue. The second-hand market remains the only way to acquire them. They feature 34 stones, each individually set in prongs on a hinged setting – a piece of craftsmanship whose current cost far exceeds their second-hand price. They also bear the signature of a Valenza-based jewellery house.
Contents and condition
The Pasquale Bruni signature is engraved on each earring post, and the 750 hallmark confirms the gold’s fineness. The pair shows normal signs of wear, particularly on the backs of the elements and the earring posts, where the rhodium plating has partially worn off. All 34 stones are in place. A refurbishment with rhodium plating by our jeweller can restore its original lustre upon request. It is supplied in a Bucherer pouch.
