The history of this Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Chronograph
Omega introduced in 2005 a collection designed to push the limits of underwater exploration. This Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Chronograph 2218.50.00 forms part of the technical evolution of the brand’s professional diving watches. Engineered to withstand the abyss, it answered the demands of divers seeking absolute reliability. The use of orange for the bezel was not a simple aesthetic choice. Beneath the ocean surface, colours gradually disappear and red fades away after only 5 metres of depth. Omega’s engineers specifically developed this shade to preserve optimal visual contrast and essential legibility in pelagic darkness.
Case, calibre and bracelet of this Seamaster Planet Ocean Chronograph
This piece features a 45.5 mm case sculpted from a solid block of stainless steel. The architecture alternates finely brushed flanks with polished bevelled edges that beautifully capture the light. The matte black dial absorbs reflections to enhance the imposing Arabic numerals at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock, along with the arrow-shaped hands filled with luminous material. The whole ensemble is protected by a domed anti-reflective sapphire crystal. Water-resistant to 600 metres thanks to its screw-down crown and manual helium escape valve, this diver is powered by the calibre 3313. This self-winding chronograph movement incorporates the iconic Co-Axial escapement and a column wheel for precise activation of short-time measurements. It offers a 52-hour power reserve. The watch is secured by a heavy brushed steel bracelet fitted with a folding clasp.
Why this Omega watch
This model represents a particularly relevant collector’s piece for enthusiasts of the early Planet Ocean collection. Its robust case paired with the orange bezel provides a highly distinctive wrist presence. No longer available through official boutiques, this version has become increasingly sought-after on the pre-owned market when presented in such a complete configuration. Its transparent mechanical history reassures the demanding enthusiast. It embodies the perfect balance between a high-performance diving instrument and a classic of 2000s watch design.
Delivered contents and condition
The acquisition experience is remarkable, as this 2006 watch is presented in a fully complete Full set configuration including its large wooden presentation box, dark outer box and three original warranty cards. Mechanical follow-up is documented by an invoice and two official Omega service cards dated 2017 and 2019. To vary the style, an additional orange leather strap with its folding clasp and three extra steel links accompany the set. The case and bracelet retain preserved geometry with slight superficial micro-scratches testifying to respectful wear. The sapphire crystal remains immaculate. The period white card holder presents inevitable material ageing. A careful polish can naturally be carried out upon request to restore the steel’s original brilliance.
