The history of this Omega De Ville
The De Ville collection embodies the Swiss brand’s classic approach. During the 1990s, Omega unveiled this particular model under the reference number 4021.31.01 in order to return to the fundamentals of the city watch. Whilst the industry was moving en masse towards imposing, sporty-looking cases, the brand chose to go in the opposite direction. It fitted this timepiece with a hand-wound chronometer-certified movement and crafted the entire piece from 950 platinum. This design choice met the expectations of a clientele seeking understated refinement, for whom the density and weight of the metal on the wrist are a distinctive feature.
Case, calibre and strap of this De Ville
The round case measures 34 mm in diameter. Crafted from 950 platinum, it features a smooth, double-stepped bezel and polished straight lugs. A flat sapphire crystal protects a light-coloured dial. The centre of the dial reveals a guilloché pattern contrasting with a smooth hour ring punctuated by raised applied hour markers. Blued steel Dauphine-style hands indicate the time. A sub-dial for the small seconds is positioned at 6 o’clock. The watch is powered by the Calibre 651. This hand-wound mechanical movement offers a power reserve of 42 hours. A brown alligator leather strap fitted with an Omega pin buckle completes the look.
Why this Omega watch
This platinum version is rarely seen on the pre-owned market. The combination of this precious metal with a COSC-certified manual-winding movement makes it a technically sophisticated timepiece. It is aimed at enthusiasts who value watchmaking tradition and seek the right balance between mechanical complexity and formal elegance. Its modest size makes it suitable for everyday wear under a shirt cuff.
