The infinity symbol on this white gold bracelet
The infinity symbol owes its shape to the English mathematician John Wallis, who introduced it in 1655 in a treatise on conic sections, and its scientific name, ‘lemniscate’, derives from the Latin ‘lemniscus’, meaning ‘ribbon’. This 18-carat white gold infinity bracelet features this endless loop set within a 13.5 mm oval medallion, entirely pavé-set with diamonds. The two loops of the motif open onto a polished metal background, which adds depth to this very delicate piece. A pre-owned, unsigned piece, it relies on the clarity of its design rather than a brand name. On the wrist, the medallion lies flat and reflects light in tiny flashes with every movement of the hand.
Architecture and jewellery craftsmanship
The medallion rests on an oval plate with a polished edge, encircled by a row of round diamonds set in a grain setting. Inside, the infinity symbol is set in its own pavé, so that the loop and the surrounding border appear as two distinct lines of light. Each stone is held in place by tiny metal grains raised within the setting, which maximise the visible surface area of the diamonds. Two side loops connect the motif to a fine, even 18 cm forçat chain, fastened with a polished lobster clasp. A second ring allows the bracelet to be adjusted to 16 cm for a slender wrist.
Why choose this second-hand bracelet
In jewellery, a white gold bracelet set with pavé diamonds involves paying for the metal, the stones and the time spent on the setting, which carries significant cost on such a densely set surface. On the second-hand market, this piece can be acquired for a fraction of the price of a comparable model. The pavé setting covers the entire medallion, whereas many models are content with just a few stones along the outline of the symbol. This infinity bracelet can be worn on its own or alongside a watch, without weighing down the wrist.
