The story behind the Emile Chouriet Challenger Cliff
The Geneva-based brand Emile Chouriet draws inspiration from alpine landscapes to design the Challenger Cliff collection. This range is characterised by a design conceived for exploration. With reference number 08.1172.G.H.H.6M.H, the brand incorporates an unusual mineral material. The dial is cut from a fragment of a grey meteorite. During its journey through space, the slow cooling of this iron-nickel alloy crystallised into distinctive geometric patterns. This natural network of intersecting lines, known as Widmanstätten figures, gives each dial a unique pattern.
Case, movement and bracelet of this Challenger Cliff
The 41 mm case is machined from stainless steel and finished with a matt black PVD coating. The case middle is characterised by the absence of traditional lugs, allowing for a seamless integration with the bracelet. The circular bezel features a brushed finish on its upper surface and a polished peripheral bevel. Beneath the sapphire crystal, the meteorite dial reveals its metallic facets when exposed to light. The hours are indicated by applied hour markers and Roman numerals positioned at 12, 6 and 9 o’clock. These elements, like the sword-shaped hands, are filled with luminescent material. A date window framed by a bevel displays the date at 3 o’clock. The watch is powered by the EC9316 automatic calibre, visible through the sapphire crystal case back. It beats at a frequency of 4 Hz and offers a power reserve of 38 hours, with 26 jewels. It is water-resistant to 50 metres. The black PVD-coated steel bracelet echoes the geometry of the case and features a folding clasp.
Why this Emile Chouriet watch
The appeal of this model lies in the contrast between its materials. The dark, industrial aesthetic of the black PVD-coated metal frames the organic complexity of the meteorite. This technical choice lends the watch a bold presence on the wrist whilst maintaining a discreet monochrome colour scheme. This design is aimed at enthusiasts seeking an exclusive mineral dial within a contemporary Swiss mechanical framework.
