The story behind this Emile Chouriet Challenger Deep
The exploration of extreme environments forms the bedrock of inspiration for the Maison Emile Chouriet. Named in homage to the Mariana Trench, the Challenger Deep line represents the archetypal Geneva tool-watch, designed to withstand the unfathomable pressures of the oceans. The Emile Chouriet Challenger Deep Chronograph reference 22.1169.G.6.AW.99.6 marks a major technical development in this collection by incorporating the queen of sports complications. The watchmaking challenge was to preserve the absolute water-resistance required for diving while integrating the push-pieces needed to measure short times. To achieve this, the Manufacture developed a system of screwed push-buttons guaranteeing perfect integrity under water. This version is also distinguished by its blue dial punctuated by large Arabic numerals, a stylistic evolution that facilitates instant reading of the information while giving it a powerful and highly architectural visual identity.
Case, calibre and bracelet of this Challenger Deep
Forged from a block of stainless steel 42 mm in diameter, the case of this chronograph offers proportions of great robustness. The blue dial, adorned with a subtle gradient effect, houses the chronograph counters, a small seconds at 9 o'clock and a double aperture displaying the day and date at 3 o'clock. The large sword-shaped hands ensure optimum legibility thanks to their luminescent coating. Protected by a sapphire crystal, this face is encircled by a unidirectional rotating bezel with a scratch-resistant blue ceramic insert. Behind the solid caseback, engraved with the traditional naval anchor, beats the EC8650 calibre, a self-winding mechanical movement with 25 jewels and oscillating at 4 Hz, delivering a power reserve of around 48 hours. It orchestrates the hours, minutes, seconds and all the chronometric functions with formidable precision. Certified water-resistance to 300 metres is ensured by the screw-down crown and push-pieces. This genuine navigational instrument is mounted on a full-link steel bracelet with folding clasp.
