The history of this Cvstos Challenge R50
The House of Cvstos was founded in 2005 under the impetus of Sassoun Sirmakes and designer Antonio Terranova. Their shared ambition was to disrupt the codes of traditional Haute Horlogerie by offering timepieces infused with hyper-technology and racing aesthetics. The Challenge R50 Chronograph HF model perfectly embodies this avant-garde philosophy. Designed for clients seeking a statement piece with strong wrist presence, this chronograph draws its inspiration directly from aeronautics and motorsport. One historical characteristic of this line lies in its small seconds indicator positioned at 9 o’clock. Unlike a conventional hand, the brand opted for a 3-blade rotating display reminiscent of a turbine propeller. Integrating reference 078100 ST into the body of its racy architecture, this numbered edition crystallises the technical approach of the Geneva manufacture.
Case, calibre and strap of this Challenge R50
The imposing architecture of this piece is built around a tonneau-shaped case measuring 50 mm. Forged in stainless steel, it features a black PVD coating that accentuates its stealthy and sporting character. The control elements, namely the screw-down crown and profiled pushers, are machined from grade 5 titanium to guarantee lightness and robustness, with water resistance tested to 100 metres. The fully skeletonised dial offers a plunging view into the internal mechanics. It stages floating baton indexes, an openworked date window between 4 and 5 o’clock, and a power reserve indicator positioned at 3 o’clock. The whole is powered by the automatic calibre 557 movement. This mechanism beats at the high frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides a 42-hour power reserve. The technical feat continues on the back of the watch with an exclusive bimetallic oscillating weight crafted from palladium and titanium. The watch is mounted on a black alligator leather strap enhanced with red stitching and a technical Alcantara lining. A black PVD-coated steel folding clasp secures the fit.
