The pink band of this Cartier Trinity ring
In 1924, Louis Cartier designed a ring comprising three intertwined, movable bands, which Jean Cocteau would wear in pairs on his little finger. This pre-owned Cartier Trinity ring recreates this design in a version crafted entirely from 18-carat rose gold, with one of the three bands set with a pavé of pink sapphires. Here, the tone-on-tone effect replaces the three gold tones of the original model, and the colour is concentrated on this single set band. Signed ‘Cartier’ in cursive script on the outer surface of one of the bands, this variant no longer features in the Maison’s current catalogue.
Architecture and jewellery craftsmanship
The three rings, each 2.9 mm wide, feature a domed profile and a mirror polish across their entire surface. They slide freely into one another and rearrange themselves at the slightest movement of the hand. The set ring features two rows of round sapphires, set in a grain setting on its outer surface, whose hue shifts from powdery pink to a deeper pink depending on the angle. The other two bands remain smooth, and one of them bears the House’s engraved signature. When worn on the finger, the rotation of the bands reveals in turn the polished gold and the row of coloured stones.
Why choose this second-hand ring
Cartier no longer stocks this rose gold Trinity ring set with sapphires in its boutiques, and the second-hand market is now the only way to acquire it. The pavé setting requires the stones to be set one by one, a process whose cost significantly increases the price of a new piece of jewellery. Here, this craftsmanship has already been carried out, inspected by our experts and signed by the House that created this design in 1924.
Contents and condition
The inside of the signed ring bears the 750 hallmark for 18-carat gold and the size 53. Our master jeweller has polished the three bands and checked the pavé setting, restoring the metal’s mirror-like finish and ensuring that each sapphire is securely set. The bands, with their even polish, show no significant signs of wear. The ring is delivered in a The Swiss Collector presentation box.
