Cartier’s Trinity, Three intertwined golds since 1924
It was in 1924 that Louis Cartier conceived a ring made up of three intertwined, movable bands: one in white gold, another in yellow gold, and the last in rose gold. This pre-owned Cartier Trinity ring corresponds to the classic reference model B4052700, the version that preceded the current collection and whose signature is engraved on the inside of the band. Each gold is 750 thousandths, or 18 carats, and retains its own distinct hue, ranging from cool grey to deep pink via a pale yellow. Traditionally, the three types of gold are associated with love, fidelity and friendship – an interpretation that explains its place as a hybrid between an engagement ring and an everyday piece of jewellery.
Architecture and jewellery craftsmanship
The rings, 3 mm wide, feature a half-round profile that is domed on the outside and a flat interior with a satin finish. They are neither soldered nor connected by an intermediate piece. Their interlaced design is the sole thing holding them together, and they slide over one another at the slightest movement of the hand. When worn, the three shades intertwine and overlap without ever settling into a fixed position, whilst the mirror-polished exterior surfaces reflect light in long, sweeping reflections across the curve of each ring. In size 61, the ring fits just as well on the ring finger of a man’s hand as on the index finger of a woman’s hand, whether worn alone or with other rings.
Why choose this second-hand ring
Its design is identical to the Trinity sold today; only the signature, which has since been moved to the outside of the band, distinguishes the two versions. Choosing this Cartier Trinity ring gives you three 18-carat gold bands bearing the Maison’s signature, refurbished by a craftsman, at a lower price than the classic model sold in-store. It is also an earlier version of the collection, which connoisseurs recognise at first glance.
