The Cartier Paris Nouvelle Vague interlocking ring
Cartier launched the Paris Nouvelle Vague collection in 1999, featuring more structured designs than the clean lines of the Trinity, Love or Juste un Clou collections. The House reinterpreted the collection in 2013 with seven rings, each linked to a character trait of the Parisian woman. This pre-owned ring belongs to the first generation, as confirmed by the date ‘1999’ engraved on the inside of the band. It is crafted from 18-carat white gold, hallmarked 750, and features no gemstones. The design relies entirely on the shape of the metal. Indeed, its Cartier certificate simply refers to it as the ‘Paris’ ring.
Architecture and jewellery craftsmanship
The band consists of two flat white gold rings that run side by side beneath the finger, then separate to cross over the top of the hand. At the crossing point, one passes over the other, leaving a gap between the two bands, which lightens the silhouette when viewed from above. All surfaces are mirror-polished, both the exterior and interior of the band. The amount of gold remains generous for a ring without a stone, and the solid construction gives it a real presence on the finger. The two offset planes at the crossing reflect light at different angles with every movement of the hand.
Why choose this pre-owned Cartier piece
This ring features a 1999 Cartier design in solid white gold, whose appeal lies in its signature style, the craftsmanship of the metal and the amount of gold used, rather than in any gemstones. The set is complete, with the jewellery box, outer box and certificate of origin, ensuring the piece’s traceability since its sale at a Cartier boutique. It has been refurbished, restoring a uniform polish to all sides, at a second-hand price. With no gemstones to monitor or settings to check, it is ideal for everyday wear.
Contents and condition
The inside bears size 50, the Cartier signature, the individual number, the inscription © 1999, the 750 fineness mark and the maker’s mark. Our jeweller has polished and inspected the ring, which now has a uniform polish with no visible signs of wear. It is supplied in its red octagonal Cartier case, with its outer box and its Cartier certificate issued by the Lausanne boutique in June 2004.
